Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for treatment of leprosy. It may be used in combination with other drugs. It is also used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, regularly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as ordered by your physician. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you can take it with food to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection completely, take Dapsone for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time each day.
More Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you respond to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, call your physician. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been ordered. Do not take less or more or take it more often than directed by your physician.
